I was out walking my dog one day, with my camera, of course, and something tiny and adorable caught my eye from across the street. A little head poking out of a knothole in a very cool tree. I zoomed in on it immediately, and realized there were a few heads poking in and out! It was a litter of squirrels! They were in the juvenile/tween stage, it seemed, and just starting to take turns exploring the world. One would run out and scale the tree while his siblings kept a watchful eye on their surroundings. Then that adventurer would return to the nest and one of the others would take his chance to check out the great outdoors.
I was able to get pictures on two separate days, but like a flash, they were all growed up and had moved on to their separate lives. I am SO grateful I got to witness their cuteness and curiosity, though! And memorialize forever. <3
"Come play with me;
Why should you run
Through the shaking tree
As though I'd a gun
To strike you dead?
When all I would do
Is to scratch your head
And let you go.”
― W.B. Yeats
